Our Origin

Incorruptible Mass was started by three moms who ran for state rep in 2020: Chelsea City Councilor Damali Vidot, former Lawrence School Board member Marianela Rivera, and Incorruptibles founder Anna Callahan.

The word “Incorruptible” in our name is designed to make you think — what does “incorruptible” mean? Is anyone “incorruptible?” No one is incorruptible by nature — elected officials need the right training and support to remain that way.

Our Plan

We are using the Incorruptible strategy that local groups in many states including MA have used effectively to elect progressives to local offices and flip the balance of power. The strategy identifies a core weakness in our current progressive playbook: once elected, politicians move away from the policies that the vast majority of their constituents want as they move toward the demands of the powerful few.  This problem is especially pervasive in the Massachusetts State House.

Every tactic in our strategy is designed to prevent that from happening, and to ensure that we flip the balance of power so we can pass policy.  At the heart of our strategy is a broad coalition of progressive organizations and BIPOC and other under-served communities working together.  We run a slate of candidates — our own Squad — on a solidarity platform who work together both before and after the election.

Most innovative is the relationship we have with our elected officials after the election, including support that has been crucial to policy success at the local level.  Our elected officials have an entire coalition at their fingertips who are decades-long experts in specific policies.  We provide access to legal aid with interpreting and writing legislation.  We train in-district volunteers to do constituent services to lift this burden from the legislator and their staff.  In return, our candidates directly engage with marginalized communities in their district, bringing them into the political process.
